Whisky Cocktails to celebrate Christmas

Throughout the year, I’ve been sent loads of recipes for whisky cocktails. And as much as I would like to feature them, I simple don’t have the space or time. However, Christmas is a time when I’m more likely buy a load of ingredients and break out my cocktail shaker, so below you’ll find some fantastic whisky cocktails you can try this Christmas.

#01 IPA Experiment – Blood Orange Serve
Preferred measure of Glenfiddich IPA
A large ball of ice
The peel of a blood orange

Add a large ball of ice, measuring 55mm (if you care to be that exact) to a regular tumbler. Pour in your preferred (large?) measure of Glenfiddich IPA. Peel a two-inch slice of blood orange peel and run it around the rim of the glass. Give the peel a little twist and drop it into the glass.

The Glen Grant Sparkler
1.5 part Glen Grant 10 Year Old
0.5 parts fresh lemon juice
0.75 parts rosemary syrup*
2 parts brut sparkling wine

Combine the whisky, lemon juice, rosemary syrup, and ice in a shaker. Shake hard for five seconds. Pour the sparkling wine into the shaker and double strain into a cocktail glass.

(*To make rosemary syrup, warm equal parts sugar and water with a few rosemary sprigs over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Gently muddle or press the rosemary to release the oils. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely before use.

The Famous Hot Toddy
50ml The Famous Grouse
A squeeze of lemon juice
1 teaspoon runny honey
1 spiced tea bag such as apple and cinnamon
Hot water
Lemon zest to garnish

Add the spiced teabag and pour in the hot water to the hot toddy glass. Then add The Famous Grouse, honey, and lemon juice and stir. Remove the teabag and finish with a sliver of lemon zest.

Smoked Orchard
50ml of The Famous Grouse Smoky Black
1 wedge of fresh lime
Half cranberry juice
Half pressed apple juice

Fill a tall glass with ice, squeeze in a generous wedge of lime and drop it into the glass. Add The Famous Grouse Smoky Black and fill the rest of the glass half with cranberry and half with apple juice. Stir and serve with a garnish of raspberries and lime.

Wild Turkey Kentucky Mule
40ml Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight
15ml freshly squeezed lime juice
Dash angostura bitters
Ginger beer
Lime and fresh mint as garnish

Add first three ingredients into shaker with ice. Shake, and strain over ice into highball glass and top off with ginger beer. Garnish with lime and mint sprig.
