Whisky Events in 2015

It’s the start of the year and you’ve probably got a lovely new holiday allowance to play with over the next 12 months.  Just be sure to keep some time for one of these cracking whisky events which are taking place across Scotland in 2015.

 

The Nip (formerly the Inverness Whisky Festival)
7-11 April 2015
Launched in 2011, the Inverness Whisky Festival rebranded at the end of last year to The Nip, in a bid to reflect the festival’s wider scope.  Under the new name, the festival will now focus on both whisky and gin at its Bogbain Farm site, along with music, food and other live events.  This expansion also involves a whole new range of events, which you can find on its website.

 

Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival
30 April – 4 May 2015
Taking place in the heart of whisky country, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is one of the country’s biggest whisky events.   Last year’s festival comprised of 370 different events, from distillery tours and whisky tastings, to musical performances and ceilidh dancing.

 

World Whisky Day
16 May 2015
The brainchild of former Aberdeen University student Blair Bowman, the fourth World Whisky Day takes place on 16 May, with whisky fans all over the world encouraged to gather together and raise a glass to Scotland’s national drink.

 

Whisky Stramash
23 & 24 May
The Whisky Stramsh has always done things a little differently, combing the standard whisky festival with an array of unique experiential events.  Last year, this included the Auchentoshan Barber Surgeon and Drambuie does Breaking Bad.  Details of this year’s event haven’t been announced yet, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more information.

 

Fèis Ìle – The Islay Festival of Malt and Music
22-30 May 2015
Probably the daddy of them all, Fèis Ìle was founded by the locals in 1986 to celebrate the heritage and culture of the island, which boasts eight whisky distilleries across its 35 miles.  Over the eight days, each distillery holds its own open days, which include special tours and tastings, alongside traditional music, ceilidhs, guided walks and other outdoor activities.

 

Glasgow Whisky Festival
November – dates TBC
Rounding off the year, the Glasgow Whisky Festival takes place in November at the city’s Arches venue.  As well as Scotch Whisky, it also showcases malts from around the world.  The festival’s website is currently down for maintenance but check back for details soon.
