Father’s Day and whisky are a match made in heaven, with a bottle of Scotch whisky often saving the blushes of sons and daughters across the country. This year though, why not take things a step further and spoil your dad with one of these whisky treats:
Morning Masterclass @ The Scotch Whisky Experience
Now available seven days a week, get your dad’s day off to a cracking start with a Morning Masterclass at The Scotch Whisky Experience. Perfect for dad’s who see themselves as whisky wizards, the 90 minute session include a sensory perception test, comparative tastings of a number of whiskies and a nosing of new-make spirit, along with a private viewing of the World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky. They’re also offering two-for-one this Sunday, if you quote Father’s Day 2016 when booking.
Lunch @ The Scotch Malt Whisky Society
The Queen Street venue of the private members club is now open to the general public, meaning you can take your dad along for a slap-up meal, safe in the knowledge that there’s plenty of whisky on hand to quench his thirst. Open Tuesday to Saturday (so you might have to take him a day early) the three course Menu Du Jour is available for £21.95 per person.
Tour @ Edinburgh Beer Factory
Relatively new to the city’s drinks scene, the Edinburgh Beer Factory is seeking to restore the city reputation as the world’s brewing capital. While they’re carrying out this hefty task, you can tour their Bankhead facility, where you’ll be walked through the lager-making process and hear more about the brand’s muse and inspiration – the ‘Godfather of Pop Art’, Eduardo Paolozzi.
Gin Making Experience with Edinburgh Gin
If your dad’s tastes are slightly more refined, why not book in at Edinburgh Gin’s distillery and let your dad make his very own gin. Enjoy an intimate look at the distillery and exhibition area, before taking part in a tutored-tasting session. Then become a distiller by using a baby still which is especially crafted for the experience to make a one-off, custom gin.
Whisky Blending @ Andrew Usher & Co.
If you’re dad fancies his hand as a whisky blender, then a whisky blending experience will be right up his street. Andrew Usher & Co. is the spiritual and geographical home of blended whisky, with the first commercial recipes created in the very same building by Andrew Usher II. Now your dad can follow in his footsteps by bringing together the best whiskies Scotland has to offer and creating his own sumptuous dram.
